Hi Everyone, my name is Uwais and I am lactose intolerant.
The reason I have created this site was to help folks like you deal, find solutions and treatment to lactose intolerance. To do this, I am going to share my personal experiences with you and how I have successfully dealt with being lactose intolerant.
I do also ask that if I ever say something that captures your interest, that you get involved within my site. I love to speak to people that experience issues related to lactose intolerance and if you have anything interesting that you would like to share, please feel free to share any comments or opinions.
This is my journey…
Being lactose intolerant is not a choice. Actually I love dairy, from chocolates to ice cream, milkshakes to cheese. But dairy doesn’t love me. My journey of lactose intolerance began when I completed school and was about to start university at the age of 18. I began to have trouble with my stomach. Going from GPs to physicians, from blood tests to scopes, doctors were struggling to find the undermined problem. Initially I was misdiagnosed to have ulcerative colitis, but later discovered that I was lactose intolerant.
I remember the dreadful day I had to eat my favourite cereal Cocopops with soy milk instead of regular milk. It was terrible and disgusting. During the initial stages I would forget my diagnosis and would eat an entire slab of chocolate. This would be the worst week of my life. I would be bloated and constipated for days. I would miss lectures at University because I would be feeling nauseous or spending more time in the toilet due to the uncontrollable diarrhea.
Overtime I became use to the idea not to eat dairy products. I use to got to weddings not eating desserts. The worst would be visiting people and when offered a cup of tea or coffee, my reply would be please make it black – people would think is this guy fussy! Not being able to eat the birthday cake at my own surprised party was horrific. Nearly all the “good stuff contains dairy”. However, one starts finding alternatives to eat dairy. Eating water ice cream instead of milk ones. Eating fruit salad instead of cheesecake.
Now i can eat dairy products. Lately, the introduction of lactose free milk and the introduction of lactose enzyme in the form of drops and tablets has enable me to eat all the dairy products I want. This website will guide in enjoying all the dairy products out there and also finding alternatives that are enjoyable and amazing.
