Thanks for the info on almond milk. I am vegetarian and tend to use soya milk in my diet instead of cows milk. I shall try almond milk as an alternative and definitely try some of the recipes.

My aunt has been drinking Almond Milk for years. She always did it for her “diet”. She is 83 and works most younger people under the table when she works as a volunteer. She does have bouts with IBS when she does not have any almond milk, we did not know that it helps this. I will let her know. I will also let her know about getting some extra Calcium in her daily routine. Thanks for an informational post.

      Hi John
Especially that she is 83 she must make sure she has a good intake of calcium to prevent osteoporosis. Glad to you she’s doing okay at that age.

I’ve been very fascinated by almond milk, but just not sure maybe you can help me decide?

Does it taste of almonds as I love almonds?

What sort of consistency is it?

It doesn’t exactly taste like almonds- but you can taste the almonds. It also depends on the brand you buy. The consistency is similar to that of cow’s milk with respect to baking and cooking, etc. It does not have the same taste as cow’s milk.

    hi Uwais
As someone who does not tolerate milk well, I appreciate your post. I have tried almond milk (especially the vanilla flavored one) in cereals especially and it is a great substitute. However, I typically buy rice milk. I love the benefits of almond milk but I find its consistency and texture to be a bit heavy and thick. I do not know if rice milk has the same benefits. But I think it is great that we have good alternatives to regular cow’s milk.

Will be great to try rice milk – something that I would love to try. I will be following up on an article with regards to Rice Milk

I like your article about almond milk. It is quite interesting to learn the benefits that you mentioned from drinking almond milk. My wife and daughter loves almond milk and they constantly buy it rather than soy milk. But for me I guess it’s a different story. I love the taste of almond milk when I drink it once but the only problem is that I am allergic to almond that is why I cannot drink it.

Almond milk is definitely an excellent alternative to cow’s milk, especially if you are a vegan! Almond milk is definitely a lot healthier than cow’s milk for several reasons that you listed in this article and even more! I recommend this milk to anyone who is interested in drinking any milk at all or is looking for an alternative to cow’s milk! 🙂

  9. Andimax

Thank you for this very interesting article. I like almond milk but was not aware of all the benefits. Great article!

Thanks, Uvais, for your comment on my memoir blog. You asked a few questions about my children and how old they were when their (gay) father left, but I see I haven’t figured out how to get a comments form that allows the author to reply beneath the comment. At my age this stuff is very confusing!

As for this post, yes. I’m into almonds, almond strips that are cheese substitutes, etc. etc. It is indeed a great substitute for cow’s milk. Except the store variety has more sugar than you’d get if you made your own. I have a soya joy milk maker to make soy milk, but I haven’t yet tried almonds. I keep thinking about doing that….

This is a great post, well written with eye-catching images. I’m bookmarking your site!

    I love almond milk!
I drink it because of its low carbohydrates and low calories content since I am pre-diabetic. It’s a great substitute for milk.
I didn’t know it had some other wonderful benefits like you listed. I didn’t know that I didn’t have to refrigerate it. Good to know!

      Hi Dinh
Almond Milk is an amazing substitute for milk. It has great benefits. I love having it with my cereal every morning.

  12. Mohammad Makki

I drink almond milk sometimes, and although I still like regular milk more, it’s great to know it has so many health benefits. I especially love that it doesn’t need refrigeration. Thanks Uwais!

  13. Sam

My mother drinks almond milk but I’ve never had the opportunity to try it. I worked in a cancer lab where we were actually testing the affect of almonds on different types of cancer cells! It’s really interesting to see that research carried over into every day products. I had no idea you didn’t need to refrigerate almond milk! That’s amazing for road trips and such. How long does it keep usually after its purchased?

  14. Kelly Jones

I really enjoyed reading about almond milk, was wondering what was the best brand to buy. I wanted to try almond milk for a while but wasn’t sure which would be the best? I currently drink lactofree milk.

    1. Uwais Post author

Hi Kelly great to hear from you. The brand that I prefer and find affordable is Blue Diamond Almond Breeze brand. Hope you find this helpful
